Hungarian Club Scholarships

The Hungarian Arts Club in the Detroit area offers a Scholarship each year to high school, college and university students who are working in a fine arts program. The scholarship award is up to $2000 and is presented at the annual White Rose Ball. The conditions of the scholarship is:
  1. Being of proven Hungarian  descent
  2. Demonstrating talent and ability in their chosen field
  3.  Forwarding a portfolio by December 1, 2008, (which will be returned) showing the work you wish to submit the club to be judged.
  4. Attending the White Rose Ball in Dearborn, Michigan in February 2009 to receive your award.

Mr. Leichter's visit this time around will be short. But he will returning in January 26th-30th to finish his work. We are very excited to welcome Mr. Leichter to our department.

Ray Mercer Sets New Work


 Ray Mercer, Maggie Allesee artist in residence for fall 2008 cast his new work -- Love Games -- for inclusion in the fall departmental concert. Congratulations to Marlo M., Martha D., Samm M., Bryan S., Aaron S., and Nick C., who will learn the piece this week and present an informal showing on Friday, September 19 at 12:30 PM in the  Maggie Allesee Studio Theatre.
 Mercer is currently in the Broadway cast of The Lion King.  He has danced with the Detroit City Dance Company, Deeply Rooted Dance Theatre in Chicago and other companies Mercer which was Broadway's Gypsy of the Year in 2005. He has set works on the Dallas Black Dance Theater, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, and Dancers Responding to AIDS/New York.
 We are delighted to have Mr. Mercer with us.
